Copious re-reads this month. In addition to finishing off the Eldritch Dark’s collection of Clark Ashton Smith material, I also re-read Lewis’ Narnia and Moorcock’s Hawkmoon for the first time in a good quarter-century. But Phantastes really was an original read.

As noted previously, December has been an excellent writing month, so far as work on Old Phuul goes. I have finished the year with the manuscript sitting at 94,560 words – over 19,000 added this month alone, on top of the 14,000 in November. Considering how long I have been wrestling with this bloody thing, to make such excellent progress over just two months is really encouraging. At this point, it looks like the novel will exceed 100,000 words, probably coming to just a bit under Wise Phuul’s 108,000. The completion of the draft – presumably in January 2023 – will definitely be cause for celebration.
