Down to Level 3: 2021 Edition
The Auckland Delta outbreak seems to have been contained to Auckland, and as of a couple of days ago, case numbers were beginning to decline. It might take a while, but I think New Zealand is confident of stamping out this latest incursion from the virus (the highly infectious Delta at that!).
The rest of the country south of Auckland has moved into Level 3 Lockdown from 11:59 p.m. on 31st August. That allows takeaways, liquor stores, et cetera, and you can work so long as you can avoid personal contact. It’s still Lockdown though, and you’re expected to stay at home unless necessary, so my little yellow-and-black Quarantine flag remains in place for now. 🙂
I would note, however, that this New Zealand outbreak is a direct result of Sydney… and there is now quite a sharp divergence between New Zealand’s continued elimination strategy, and that of the Australian federal government, which in collaboration with the New South Wales state government seems to want to spread the disease throughout Australasia. “The Plague of Gladys” indeed… though I’d imagine Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Hobart are cheering our elimination efforts on.
