2020 Just Reading: December

Completed reads for December:

  • Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley
  • Murder on the Orient Express, by Agatha Christie
  • A Study in Scarlet, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
  • The Sign of Four, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
  • Dracula, by Bram Stoker
  • King Solomon’s Mines, by H. Rider Haggard
  • The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson
  • The Thirty-Nine Steps, by John Buchan
  • The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde

A few re-reads to round out the year (though I had not previously read the Christie and the Conan Doyles). King Solomon’s Mines in particular was a childhood favourite, and it was interesting to see whether it held up (it does, and even the racial thing is pretty decent for 1885. The biggest case of values dissonance is probably the elephant hunting).
