The Most Metal Deaths in Tolkien

A truly awesome piece:

A shame it’s missing several other candidates:

  • Maedhros. He and his last surviving brother steal the Silmarils from the Host of Valinor itself, but the jewel burns his hand. In agony and despair, he leaps into a fiery chasm (Beleriand is breaking up, soon to sink beneath the Sea).
  • Denethor. Breaks under the strain of an impossible war, and tries to kill both himself and his son. Faramir is rescued, but Denethor burns himself alive with the palantír.
  • Ar-Pharazôn. Invades Aman in pursuit of immortality, thereby prompting the Valar to plea for the direct intervention of Eru Himself. Eru literally remakes the world, and Ar-Pharazôn is buried beneath the falling hills.
